Orthodontic Treatment Options for Adults
The Invisalign appliance is a series of smart computer-designed plastic trays that slowly move teeth. This appliance has significantly changed orthodontic care for adult patients.
Some advantages include esthetic (traditional adult braces can be intimidating for adults), limited dietary restrictions, and the possibility to remove the appliance for certain activities. Dr. Rooz recently published a study in the American Journal of Orthodontics on the use of Invisalign in orthodontics, and is therefore very knowledgable about it.
Lingual Adult Braces
These are like traditional adult braces in that they are brackets placed on the teeth and connected with a wire, however they are placed on the inside of the teeth so they are not visible at all. Lingual braces are ideal for the patient who does not want to have any visible adult braces, but also does not want to use Invisalign. The brackets are customized for each patient.
Esthetic Adult Braces
This is a supplemental option that can be combined with any of the other treatment options. It is a minimally invasive procedure that can substantially speed up the process of straightening teeth. The influence of this procedure on the overall treatment time depends on the individual patient and their body’s response to it. Dr. Rooz can provide detailed information about this process during your consultation.
Orthognathic Surgery (Jaw Surgery)
A patient’s treatment needs may be more than straightening the teeth; they may be the result of skeletal abnormalities. These cases require collaboration between an oral surgeon and an orthodontist to correct the problem. There are two approaches to this type of treatment – including having the surgical procedure prior to adult braces.
Dr. Rooz offer corrective jaw surgery with esthetic appliances such as lingual braces and clear aligners. During your consultation Dr. Rooz will discuss this in detail with you. He has worked with several oral surgeons in the past and enjoys collaborating with them.
